France's far right is facing renewed antisemitism allegations that threaten its long-running effort to present itself as mainstream and respectable. The claims come as the party has sought to broaden its appeal ahead of upcoming political contests. Observers say the allegations complicate attempts by the movement's leadership to distance itself from its extremist roots and could weigh on its standing with voters and allies.
Why now: The allegations undermine the party's image-rehabilitation strategy at a politically sensitive moment in France.
