UK and France scrap 'one in, one out' migrant scheme

The UK and France have abandoned their 'one in, one out' migration deal, under which France agreed to accept some irregular migrants from Britain in exchange for an equal number of asylum seekers with family ties in the UK. The scheme, launched to deter small boat crossings, has reportedly been scrapped. The move raises fresh questions about how the two governments plan to manage Channel crossings going forward.
Why now: The collapse of a flagship UK-France cooperation on Channel crossings is significant news for the immigration policy debate.
