Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, running for Senate, was recorded in leaked audio privately criticizing Donald Trump, warning that Trump is dragging down Republicans across the board. The remarks are striking because Paxton has built his career as a Trump loyalist, and the recording lands as he campaigns for the Senate seat in a high-stakes Republican primary fight.
Why now: A Trump-aligned politician disparaging Trump in leaked audio undermines his public image and could reshape the Texas Senate race.
