'Schmitting the bed' joins the political slang lexicon

A new piece of political slang is circulating: 'schmitting the bed,' defined as when a carefully planned 'gotcha' backfires and becomes the most damaging evidence against one's own competence. The jab is aimed at US politics and appears to mock a Republican figure for a self-inflicted blunder, with users sharing it as a shorthand for public self-owns by politicians.
Why now: It offers a catchy new label for political self-owns, which reliably gets shared in US political discussion.
