EDF boss calls new UK oil and gas projects a 'no-brainer'
Original: “New UK gas and oil projects are a ‘no-brainer’, says EDF boss.” With €29.3 billion profit who cares about the climate?
The head of French energy giant EDF has described new UK gas and oil projects as a 'no-brainer', drawing sharp criticism from climate campaigners. Critics contrast the endorsement with EDF's €29.3 billion profit, arguing the company is prioritising financial gains over climate commitments as the UK weighs fresh fossil fuel extraction.
Why now: The EDF chief's pro-fossil-fuel remarks clash with climate goals and come amid anger over the company's record profits.
