Researchers working in Antarctica are highlighting the stakes of their fieldwork, describing pride in contributing to ambitious big science while warning that if this corner of the Antarctic ice sheet is lost, the planet would become a different place. The area, due south of Hobart and relatively far north, remains stubbornly shielded by sea ice, complicating access to the site.

Why now: Ongoing concern about Antarctic ice sheet stability and its global climate impact is drawing attention to researchers' fieldwork updates.
