NUUG, the Norwegian Unix user group, has invited Jussi Pakkanen, creator of the Meson build system, to Oslo to give a talk titled "Building a Super 8 Film Scanner at Home". Pakkanen repaired a 1970s projector and built his own scanner using a Raspberry Pi, stepper motors, 3D-printed parts and machine vision to digitise old film reels.

Why now: The combination of a well-known open-source developer and an unusual home hardware project is drawing interest ahead of the talk.
