Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs said Latvia could host nuclear weapons if NATO decides to deploy them on its territory, according to Meduza. The statement underscores the alliance's readiness to reinforce its eastern flank amid ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine, and is likely to fuel debate in the Baltic region about deterrence and Russian reactions.

Why now: Tensions with Russia over the war in Ukraine keep NATO's forward defense posture, including possible nuclear sharing, in the headlines.
