Japanese comedian Hachimitsu Jiro has finally been given his first television program bearing his own name, 32 years into his entertainment career. In interviews around the launch, he drew attention with a characteristically offbeat remark, saying his ideal way to spend his final moments would be at the home of a woman who knows him only by a host-club stage name. The milestone and the striking quote have circulated widely in Japanese entertainment news.
Why now: The novelty of a veteran comedian getting his first named show after 32 years, paired with his outrageous quote, is driving attention.
