A Brazilian news outlet says it will not cover the country's upcoming elections after receiving threats, with staff saying 'we're afraid of dying'. The Guardian reports the threats are linked to far-right circles connected to Jair Bolsonaro's movement. The case is drawing attention to escalating violence and intimidation against journalists in Brazil ahead of the 2026 elections.
Why now: Intimidation of a news organisation so severe it abandons election coverage raises alarm about press freedom and political violence in Brazil.
