Missouri Republican Senator Eric Schmitt is facing backlash after standing by his line of questioning of special counsel Jack Smith regarding a basketball game. Critics, including political commentators online, are mocking the senator, saying he doubled down on what they call fabricated questioning and only confirmed his own embarrassment rather than landing a blow on Smith.

Why now: Schmitt's refusal to back away from widely ridiculed questioning of Jack Smith has made him a target of mockery among political observers.
