Democrats fail to block Trump's cancellation of $810M in Congress-approved funds
Original: Democrats fail to stop Trump from canceling $810M in funds approved by Congress
Democrats in Congress have failed to stop the Trump administration from canceling $810 million in funding that had previously been approved by lawmakers. The move highlights the limits of congressional power over spending when the executive branch chooses to withhold appropriated funds. Critics see it as another instance of the administration bypassing Congress on budget authority, while the administration defends the cancellations as within its authority.
Why now: A significant spending fight between Congress and the White House has just concluded in Trump's favor, raising fresh concerns over executive power.
