Execution of US killer Christa Pike halted at last minute
Original: christina pike
The execution of Christa Pike, a US woman convicted of murder, was stopped shortly before it was due to be carried out, the BBC reports. Pike, the only woman on death row in Tennessee, had been scheduled to die for the 1995 killing of a fellow student. The last-minute stay has drawn attention on both sides of the Atlantic, with people debating the courts' reasoning and the future of her case.
Why now: A last-minute halt to a scheduled execution is rare breaking news, prompting fresh debate about the death penalty.
