Original: nato
Tensions between Russia and NATO are escalating after Moscow warned it could respond with nuclear force if its exclave of Kaliningrad were cut off. Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said there is no imminent threat to alliance territory but stressed that members remain prepared for possible Russian aggression. The exchanges come amid ongoing friction over the war in Ukraine and military posturing near alliance borders.
Why now: Fresh Russian nuclear rhetoric directed at NATO and the alliance's public response are heightening security concerns.
