Readers on social platforms are marking their finish of War Is a Racket, the 1935 antiwar pamphlet by two-time Medal of Honor recipient Smedley Butler. The short book argues that US wars are driven by business and financial interests, and it remains widely shared in reading communities discussing history, politics and military policy.
Why now: The book's critique of war profiteering resonates amid current debates over military spending and foreign conflicts.
