UK officials, cited by Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, say Iran is believed to have played a part in the RAF Fairford incident, while police have released the five suspects on bail. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi publicly quoted the remarks, indicating Tehran is closely watching and pushing back on the allegation. The discrepancy between the Iran claim and the bail releases is drawing scrutiny of the UK's evidence.
Why now: A UK government claim of Iranian involvement in an incident at an RAF base, combined with the suspects' release, is a significant diplomatic and security story.
