Becerra and Hilton's lone California debate centers on Trump
Original: It was their only scheduled debate. Becerra and Hilton talked mostly about Trump
Xavier Becerra and Steve Hilton met for their only scheduled debate in California's gubernatorial race, and much of the exchange centered on Donald Trump rather than each other. The candidates spent the night drawing contrasts over the former president's influence, offering voters little direct confrontation between the two men themselves.
Why now: The debate was the only scheduled face-off between the candidates, so its tone and focus draw close attention.
