Andy Burnham has given a landmark speech that commentators say shows the left winning the political argument, even if not yet political power. Writing in the Guardian, the argument runs that the left almost always wins debates eventually, but is sidelined by moneyed interests, with Burnham's address framed as evidence of left-wing ideas regaining ground in British politics.

Why now: Burnham's speech is being read as a sign of shifting momentum within Labour and the British left.
