Secretary of State Marco Rubio has ordered the visiting Iranian delegation to the United Nations to leave New York City ahead of its scheduled departure. The move restricts the diplomatic visit normally permitted for delegations travelling to UN headquarters, underscoring sharply deteriorated relations between Washington and Tehran. The order is drawing attention to how far the US is willing to go in limiting Iranian diplomatic presence on American soil.
Why now: It is an unusual restriction of Iranian diplomatic access at the UN, signalling escalating US-Iran tensions.
