Newsom orders California agencies to say 'AI' after Trump decree
Original: War of words: Newsom orders California to say AI after Trump’s ‘superintelligence’ decree
California Governor Gavin Newsom has ordered state agencies to use the term 'AI' rather than 'superintelligence', in a direct rebuttal to President Trump's language in a federal decree. The move escalates a war of words between the two leaders over artificial intelligence terminology and signals California's pushback against the White House's framing of AI policy.
Why now: The governor's order directly contradicts Trump's decree, making it fresh political conflict over AI policy.
