Premier League KMI panel under scrutiny over key decisions
Original: The Premier League KMI panel: Who's on it, how does it work and why isn't it working? https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7
The Athletic examines the Premier League's Key Match Incidents (KMI) panel, the independent body that reviews contentious refereeing and VAR decisions each week. The piece explains who sits on the panel, how it assesses whether on-field decisions were correct, and argues the process is failing to deliver consistency or public confidence, renewing debate over refereeing standards.
Why now: Ongoing controversy over Premier League refereeing and VAR decisions is drawing attention to how the KMI panel judges them.
