Olga Rudenko, editor of the Kyiv Independent, told the Guardian that while her publication's readers overwhelmingly want Russia to suffer for its invasion of Ukraine, the outlet refuses to become a propaganda vehicle. She defended the newspaper's commitment to independent journalism even amid a war that stirs strong emotions among Ukrainians and its international audience.
Why now: The interview touches on the tension between patriotic sentiment and journalistic neutrality during the ongoing war, a debate that resonates widely.
