A newly surfaced Microsoft patent describes a system that would record a player's facial expressions while gaming, feed that data to a generative AI, and have the AI redesign or adjust the game in response to the player's emotional reactions. Gamers are reacting with alarm, citing privacy concerns over continuous face recording and scepticism about AI-driven game design. Microsoft has not indicated the technology will appear in any actual product.

Why now: The patent fuels ongoing anxiety about Microsoft's push into AI and surveillance-adjacent technologies in gaming.
