Russia carried out strikes on and near Kyiv throughout Thursday, killing four civilians and injuring eight, according to reports shared by analyst Scott Lucas. Ukraine's state energy company has imposed emergency power cuts in Kyiv and three nearby regions in response to damage to infrastructure. President Zelensky emphasized that every interceptor missile fired by air defenses saves lives, renewing calls for more air defense support from Western allies.

Why now: The renewed strikes on Ukraine's capital and their civilian toll are keeping the war at the center of global attention.
