Russia's Foreign Ministry has summoned Denmark's ambassador in Moscow to protest what it called "provocations" by a Danish Air Force helicopter. The move came after a Russian corvette fired signal flares at the Danish helicopter, an incident that has sharpened tensions between the two countries at a time of heightened friction over Ukraine and NATO-related military activity in the Baltic region.
Why now: The flare incident is a fresh diplomatic clash between Russia and a NATO member amid already strained relations over the Ukraine war.
