Google has updated its publicly available satellite images of the Gaza Strip, revealing the unprecedented levels of destruction inflicted by Israeli forces over the past three years. Amnesty International, United Nations bodies and scholars have repeatedly documented the scale of devastation in the occupied territory, and the refreshed imagery now makes that damage visible to anyone using the maps service.

Why now: The newly updated imagery provides vivid visual confirmation of destruction that human rights organisations and UN bodies have been documenting for years.
