CHOMPI sampler discontinued, goes open-source
Original: CHOMPI is discontinued but lives on as an open-source sampler
The CHOMPI pocket sampler has been discontinued as a commercial product, but the hardware lives on as an open-source project. That means its designs are now freely available, allowing the community to build, modify and maintain the instrument independently of the original maker. Musicians and hardware hobbyists are discussing what the transition means for the device's future.
Why now: A well-liked budget sampler ending commercial production while becoming open-source gives users and builders new reason to discuss its future.
