Rwanda open to hosting migrants transferred from Europe, EU lawmakers say
EU lawmakers say Rwanda has signalled willingness to accept migrants transferred from Europe, reopening a controversial outsourcing model after the UK's abandoned Rwanda scheme. The reported openness is drawing attention in European migration debates, where governments are searching for third-country partnerships to manage asylum arrivals. Critics have long questioned the legality and ethics of relocating asylum seekers to African countries.
Why now: European governments are actively seeking third-country migration deals, making any Rwandan willingness to host transfers a politically charged development.
