ICE killing of father in Maine prompts shift in watch group tactics
Original: ICE got ‘quieter’ – then killed a father in Maine. Now watch groups are shifting their tactics too
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has adopted a quieter approach to operations, a shift highlighted after an enforcement action in Maine left a father dead. In response, immigration watch groups say they are changing their own tactics to monitor ICE activity, concerned that reduced visibility around raids and arrests is making it harder for communities to track and document enforcement.
Why now: A fatal ICE operation in Maine has renewed scrutiny of the agency's lower-profile enforcement methods and how advocates monitor them.
