Event marks 25 years since 9/11-era war losses
Original: Event marks 25 years and over 7,000 troops lost in war on terrorism
A commemorative event marked 25 years since the start of the war on terrorism, honouring more than 7,000 American troops who died in conflicts following the September 11 attacks. The gathering recognised the service members lost across two decades of operations in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere, and prompted reflection on the long human cost of the post-9/11 military campaigns.
Why now: The 25th anniversary milestone of the war on terrorism is prompting memorial events and reflection on its casualties.
