Tokyo endures record 35 straight days of rain

Original: 🌧️ NEW: Central # Tokyo logged 35 straight days of # rain starting Aug. 27, the longest streak since # records began in

Central Tokyo has recorded 35 consecutive days of rain starting August 27, the longest wet streak since records began in 1886. September rainfall reached 629 mm by September 28, roughly triple the usual amount. Meteorologists attribute the persistence to a stalled autumn rain front, approaching typhoons, and the influence of El Nino.

Why now: The rain streak breaks a 19th-century weather record, making it striking news about unusual climate patterns.
