The Pittsburgh Steelers have traded cornerback Joey Porter Jr., ending a contract standoff with the young defensive back. Reporting on the deal argues the team could not let pride or precedent over player contracts stand in the way of a move, given the impasse in negotiations. The trade is drawing attention because Porter, a son of a former Steelers linebacker, was seen as a key piece of the defense.
Why now: A notable young cornerback was traded by the Steelers amid a public contract dispute, sparking debate about how the team handles its players.
