Mississippi Democrats sense opening as GOP political climate sours
Original: Political climate has so soured for GOP, even Mississippi Democrats are hopeful
Democrats in Mississippi, long one of the most Republican-friendly states in the country, are expressing unusual optimism about their electoral prospects. The Washington Post reports that the national political climate has deteriorated for the GOP to the point where even the state's perennially outnumbered Democrats believe they have a realistic chance in upcoming races, a notable shift in a deeply red state.
Why now: A potential shift in the political landscape in one of the nation's reddest states is surprising and newsworthy heading into elections.
