Poland streamlines air defence response rules
Original: Poland implements new response rules for air defence amid Russian attacks on Ukraine Poland enacts simplified procedures
Poland has introduced simplified procedures for detecting and shooting down foreign aerial objects, taking effect on 1 October. The changes are designed to protect Polish airspace during Russian attacks on Ukraine, when drones and missiles have repeatedly approached or crossed into Polish territory. The move reflects growing concern in NATO's eastern flank countries about incursions and the need for faster decision-making in responding to airborne threats.
Why now: Russian drone and missile strikes on Ukraine keep threatening Polish airspace, prompting Warsaw to speed up its response procedures.
