NBA closes its sole training academy in Africa
Original: NBA closes sole training academy in Africa in blow to young players
The NBA has shut down its only training academy in Africa, a facility that gave young players elite coaching, education and a pathway toward professional basketball. The move removes a key development hub for prospects across the continent and has drawn criticism, with observers calling it a setback for young players who relied on the academy to pursue careers in the sport.
Why now: The closure directly affects young African basketball prospects and narrows the NBA's talent pipeline on the continent.
