Google Accused of Breaking 10-Year Chromebook Update Promise
Original: Google breaks promise to provide 10 years of updates to Chromebooks
Google is being accused of walking back its commitment to provide ten years of software updates for Chromebooks, a pledge it made in 2023 to extend device lifespans and reduce electronic waste. The report is drawing criticism from users and commentators who see it as another example of a major tech company shortening support for hardware after customers have bought it.
Why now: The report revokes a high-profile public commitment, sparking criticism of Google's reliability on hardware support promises.
