The Scottish government announced that the bluetongue restriction zone will be expanded to cover all of Scotland. Officials said the move will simplify trading for farmers, hauliers and auction markets, as the disease continues to spread among livestock in Britain. Farming groups are watching closely for implications on livestock movements and exports.
Why now: Bluetongue's spread and the new nationwide restriction zone have direct consequences for Scottish farming and livestock trade.
