Eala misses Asian Games gold and Olympic berth

Original: Eala hoped for gold in the Asian Games and an automatic berth in the Olympics. She got neither

Filipina tennis player Alex Eala fell short of her two main goals at the Asian Games: a gold medal and the automatic qualification spot for the Olympics that comes with it. She came away with neither, a disappointing outcome for a player seen as one of the Philippines' brightest sporting hopes. Attention is now turning to how she will secure her place at the Games by other means.

Why now: A high-profile young athlete failing to reach the Olympics is a major talking point for sports fans, particularly in the Philippines.
