Nepal floods threaten jobs beyond disaster zone, ILO warns
Original: Nepal floods threaten jobs and livelihoods beyond disaster zone: ILO
The International Labour Organization warns that flooding in Nepal is endangering employment and livelihoods far outside the directly hit areas. Damage to farms, businesses and infrastructure is expected to disrupt incomes across wider regions, compounding the disaster's economic toll. The UN agency is calling attention to the broader labour market consequences as relief efforts continue.
Why now: Severe flooding in Nepal has caused damage with economic effects the ILO says extend beyond the disaster zone.
