The Baltic States Prepare for War
The Baltic states — Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania — are preparing for a possible conflict, a story highlighted by The Atlantic. Bordering Russia and newly reinforced NATO members, the three countries have been expanding defence spending, conscription and military infrastructure. The report reflects growing concern in the region that Russia's war in Ukraine could eventually spill over into NATO's eastern flank, prompting unusually direct talk of war readiness.
Why now: Rising tensions with Russia and the war in Ukraine have made Baltic defence preparations a pressing topic.
