Original: Kentucky Fish and Wildlife releases juvenile hellbenders back into the wild
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources has released juvenile hellbenders back into the wild. Hellbenders are large aquatic salamanders whose populations have declined across much of their range, and state wildlife agencies have been working to restore them to rivers where they once thrived. The release marks another step in conservation efforts to rebuild the species in the region.
Why now: The reintroduction of a rare amphibian species is drawing attention to ongoing state conservation efforts.
