WTA to get equal prize money at Italian Open from 2027
Original: WTA announces 'major milestone' with equal prize money at Italian Open and other big events in 2027
The WTA has announced what it calls a major milestone: equal prize money for women at the Italian Open and several other major tournaments starting in 2027. The move closes the pay gap with the men's tour at some of the sport's biggest combined events, and it is being welcomed as a long-sought step toward parity in tennis.
Why now: Equal pay at top tennis tournaments is a landmark change that players, fans and media have long campaigned for.
