Faith leaders complete 96-mile walk from Adelanto to Los Angeles
Original: Faith leaders walk 96 miles from Adelanto to Los Angeles
A group of faith leaders has walked 96 miles from Adelanto to Los Angeles, completing a multi-day march through Southern California. The pilgrimage began at the Adelanto immigration detention facility and is being framed as a call for humane treatment of immigrants and detention reform. Organisers say the route was chosen to draw attention to conditions faced by people held in detention centres inland, ending their march in the Los Angeles area.
Why now: Immigration and detention conditions in California remain a live public concern, and the march's arrival in Los Angeles is drawing attention.
