Hegseth Names Musk and Gingrich to Military Leadership Roles
Original: Hegseth Announces Elon Musk and Newt Gingrich Will Help Lead Military
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has announced that Elon Musk and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will take on roles helping to lead the US military. The announcement is drawing attention because it places two civilians with no uniformed military background, one of them a major defense contractor, in influential positions over the armed forces, raising questions about conflicts of interest and civilian control.
Why now: The unusual pairing of a billionaire defense contractor and a partisan politician in military leadership roles is controversial.
