Women's groups report widespread sexual violence across Sudan
Original: Women’s groups report widespread sexual violence and detention across Sudan
Sudanese women's groups are reporting widespread sexual violence and arbitrary detention of women across the country, as the conflict that began in April 2023 between the army and the Rapid Support Forces continues. Rights organisations say survivors face enormous barriers to reporting, including stigma, lack of medical services and the dangers of displacement, and they are calling for accountability and international attention.
Why now: The civil war in Sudan is ongoing and documentation of sexual violence against women has been mounting, drawing renewed calls for protection and justice.
