German CDU accused of blocking reforms over lobby fears
Original: „Die wahren Bremser sitzen in der # union . Das ist Angst vor der eigenen Verantwortung, Angst vor der # lobby Angst vor
Criticism is being voiced in Germany that the CDU/CSU, not its coalition partners, is the real obstacle to reform, with commentators saying the party fears taking responsibility and confronting lobbies. The debate touches on issues such as a sugar tax and the work of the government under Chancellor Friedrich Merz, with calls to stop hoping for last-minute solutions.
Why now: Frustration with the Merz government's perceived reform paralysis is driving criticism of the union parties.
