Turkey blocks X account documenting internet censorship
Original: Turkey blocks EngelliWeb X account that documents internet censorship
Turkey has blocked EngelliWeb's X account, which tracks and documents internet censorship in the country. EngelliWeb, run by the Freedom of Expression Association, maintains public records of blocked websites and platforms, including the many domestic and foreign sites restricted by Turkish authorities. The move to block the account itself has drawn criticism, as it targets the very platform used to report on the government's censorship decisions.
Why now: The irony of blocking the account that documents censorship has renewed attention on Turkey's growing internet restrictions.
