Guardians name Messick and Williams to start ALDS Games 1-2
Original: Guards tab star rookie Messick, AL strikeout king Williams for ALDS Games 1-2
The Cleveland Guardians have set their rotation for the opening two games of the American League Division Series, handing the ball to rookie standout Messick in Game 1 and AL strikeout leader Williams in Game 2. The assignments signal the club's confidence in its young arms as it opens its postseason run, and fans are debating whether the unproven rookie or the strikeout king should get the ball first.
Why now: Playoff pitching decisions are always hot topics, and trusting a star rookie to open a postseason series is a bold, debatable call.
