An AI system has defeated the best Stratego player in history, and did so using relatively modest computing resources, according to Ars Technica. Stratego, with its hidden-information pieces, has long been considered a harder challenge for AI than perfect-information games like chess or Go, so achieving this without massive compute is drawing attention from the AI research and gaming communities.
Why now: People are discussing the milestone because beating a human champion at imperfect-information game Stratego with limited resources marks a notable advance in AI research.
