Texas Board Questioned AI Learning Tool, State Then Piloted It in Schools
Original: Texas’ Education Board Raised Questions About an AI Learning Tool. The State Then Helped Pilot It in Public Schools.
Texas' State Board of Education raised concerns about an AI-powered learning tool, yet the state went on to help pilot the same product in public schools, according to ProPublica. The report raises questions about how student data and classroom AI tools are vetted, and why a product flagged by education officials still received state-backed support for classroom trials.
Why now: The apparent gap between the board's stated concerns and the state's decision to support the tool has drawn scrutiny over oversight of AI in education.
